    Katy J. Rogers

I joined mpowered in 2009 as Program Director and later moved into the role of Human Resources Director. Prior to joining mpowered, I worked in the domestic and international microfinance industry for more than six years. My work with small business clients taught me the importance of unbiased financial coaching based on individual personal situations and goals. At mpowered we provide this trusted guidance to hundreds of individuals and families every month. I hold a BA in Business/Economics from Wheaton College in Illinois and an MBA from the University of Colorado at Denver. Outside of mpowered I am honored to serve on the regional advisory board of HOPE International, a Christian faith-based, nonprofit organization focused on alleviating physical and spiritual poverty through microenterprise development. I’m originally from Minnesota and I currently live in Evergreen, Colorado with my husband and children.

    Benjamin Weeda

I joined mpowered in the Spring of 2015 with the hope of elevating the mission to another level.  I was born and raised in Denver, CO and after spending 4 years studying Spanish at Knox College in Galesburg, IL (with half a year in Barcelona, Spain) I returned with the goal of using my bilingual abilities to impact the diverse communities of Denver and Colorado.  I have been a substitute teacher for Denver Public Schools, did a stint in the private sector and then joined Denver’s nonprofit community in 2006 focusing in the microfinance industry.  As the proud Co-Founder of Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute, I observed numerous cases where financial education has made the difference between achieving self-sufficiency and continued personal financial struggles.   I am a proud husband, father of 2 and Coloradoan looking forward to solidifying Colorado’s future by allowing individuals to think, act and feel differently about their money.

I joined the mpowered team as a Personal Finance Coach in June of 2014.  My passion is helping people work toward whole-being wellness, of which financial wellness is a significant part.  We all have a financial story to tell, and I truly enjoy meeting people wherever they are on that journey and walking with them toward their goals.  I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma and recently graduated from Regis University with my Master of Nonprofit Management degree.  I look forward to offering my skills and experience to the mpowered team, but I am even more excited to learn and grow from my experience as a coach.  Outside of work, long-distance road and mountain biking help me stay happy and fit and I try to live each moment as mindfully as I can.

    Mariette Candelon

I joined mpowered as a Personal Finance Coach in March 2017. I feel so fortunate to be able to be part of the organization’s mission, and help individuals and families on the path towards financial self-sufficiency. I look forward to providing them with knowledge and resources available so that they can write their own financial story. Besides living and working in France, I have had the chance to be an educator for 7 years in Vietnam. I have continued in the education field in the US with Denver Public Schools, before transitioning into the finance industry with Fidelity Investments. These combined experiences naturally led me to this current role, but being surrounded by team members who are so passionate about making a positive impact in the community and in people’s lives adds even more to my daily motivation.

I proudly join the mpowered team with experience managing volunteers and providing services in a number of professional capacities: as a financial services representative for a corporate company (Prudential); at a shelter where people experiencing homelessness access services (St. Francis Center); at a transitional housing and early childhood center program (Warren Village); and with an education-focused youth development AmeriCorps program (City Year). These experiences, as well as my personal service experience as a Youth Development Volunteer in the Peace Corps (St. Lucia in the Caribbean) and as an Urban Servant Corps volunteer here in Denver, have provided me with a foundation for understanding how life-giving service can be. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy cycling, hiking, cooking, ice hockey and volunteering. I am grateful to be a part of the mpowered staff as we work towards a promising future.

  • Oscar Torres - Engagement Specialist Click to expand

    Oscar Torres

Being part of a positive environment that puts people at the helm of their financial lives is tremendously rewarding. That's why I joined the mpowered team during the summer of 2015 as a bilingual receptionist. Having that first contact with clients and knowing they're one step closer to achieving their goals is a powerful feeling. With a background in customer service, communications and a passion for languages, I feel right at home. As a recent Denver transplant, most of my free time is spent walking around the various city parks or visiting all the incredible sites this place has to offer. I equally enjoy reading about political economy, learning new languages, and personal finances.
